BIXSO releases the Business Solution Canvas as an open framework — and three free courses to learn it

The Business Solution Canvas (BSC) is now published as an open framework under Creative Commons BY-SA, and BIXSO Academy is opening three free courses that teach it end to end.

What the canvas is

BSC is a one-page canvas that puts the SOLUTION at the centre of business design, surrounded by three wings: M (Model of the business), A (Analysis for the business) and AI (AI for the business), plus a risk box for what you do not yet know. It inherits the nine blocks of Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas, the Solution definition from IIBA’s BABOK/BACCM, and the operating-model thinking of the 2025–26 agentic era.

The one thing that makes it different

A completed Business Model Canvas is finished. A completed Business Solution Canvas must PASS. Three fit-gates decide it: is it worth doing (M), is it the right problem (A), can it actually run (AI)? Two out of three is a fail. That single rule changes what a canvas is for — from a presentation artefact into a decision instrument that can tell you no while it is still cheap to hear.

If you have ever finished a business-model canvas and still not known whether the idea was any good, that gap is the thing BSC was built to close. The canvas is not the deliverable — the verdict is.

The three courses — free, forever

• BSC Foundations — The Business Solution Canvas (beginner, 3h, 8 lessons): the whole canvas, the academic heritage of each wing, and how to read a completed canvas honestly.
• Building Your First BSC — Method and Gate in Practice (intermediate, 4h, 10 lessons): the mandatory sequence M then A then AI then Solution, worked end to end on a real case, with your own canvas as the deliverable.
• BSC for AI-Native Business — Designing the AI Wing (advanced, 4h, 10 lessons): core processes, the human and AI actor split, decision rights and governance, and the learning loop — with the economics of running agents honestly.

Why free

Learning content on BIXSO Academy is free and stays free. Frameworks spread by being given away — the Business Model Canvas proved that over a decade. BIXSO earns further along the chain: mentoring, consulting, and the products we build with the framework. If you only ever download the canvas and never pay us anything, the framework has still done its job.
